This article's subject is Jacques Lacan's concept of desire. According to Lacan, desire is the Other's desire (since our unconscious is the Other's unconscious) desire of the Other outside us and the desire of the Other within us. Desire constitutes human existence and is infinite, unsatisfiable. Not only is desire unquenchable, it is also ndestructible. It is always there, floating in the empty spaces, pursued, restless, therefore condemning us to an existence like that of a tree rooted in water.
