The most painful alienation experienced is that between parents and their children. Some mothers find it difficult to connect with their infants and experience estrangement. Parents estranged from their children tend to ignore them and their needs while remaining unaware of the problematic nature of such behavior. Alienation can result from painful and troublesome feelings but also from an inability to be emotionally tied to, love or care for another. What differentiates these types of alienation?
