In this article the author raises the issue of the polarities found in the definition of historical, objective truth and that of artistic, subjective truth. Direct, obvious historic truth is resolutely determined, highly detailed, and focused on external reality. Artistic truth is established by the artists who create and revise that truth according to the observer-artist's perspective and internal world. Which of these truths is "truer" remains moot, discordant. Some exaggerate and argue that art alone determines truth. However, a new artistic truth is evolving in response to the amazing discoveries of modern science.
